This incident adds to a series of controversial police actions currently under scrutiny. The death of Albert Ojwang, who died in police custody, had already caused national anger. The killing of James Mwangi now raises more questions about the professionalism, restraint, and accountability of law enforcement in handling public protests.

Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International Kenya, have condemned the shooting as yet another example of a dangerous and unlawful pattern of police brutality.

Calls for Calm and Justice

In light of rising tensions, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has called for calm and patience as investigations continue. He assured the public that the vendor’s family will receive support and that those responsible will be held accountable.

Meanwhile, protesters have vowed to continue their demands for justice not only for Ojwang, but now also for Mwangi and others who have been killed or injured by police in recent months.
